About Louise — ceramic artist in Brighton & Hove

I have been creating ceramic pieces for the last 9 years. I have recently retired and I can now dedicate all my time to this passion.
My latest collection features abstract herds of elephants, standing back to back as a symbol of protection, strength and family unity. Born in Kenya, I have always been inspired by these intelligent and gentle animals. Their calm nature, combined with the striking forms of their trunks, ears and tusks, provides endless inspiration.
They are all handbuilt and finished in a large number of glazes. There are finished pieces that you can buy or you can commission a herd in your choice of glaze.
I look forward to hearing from you and getting hard to work!
I make my elephants stand back to back in family unity, where the older protect the younger elephants.
Some of the herds have an elephant at the very top trumpeting with the tusk up and mouth open.
Each herd has about 70 pieces of leather hard clay put together. They then have to dry slowly for 2 weeks before they are bisque fired.
I then apply 6 layers of glaze by brush, before they go in for the final kiln fire.
The sculpture is then wrapped generously in bubble wrap and placed in a box, ready to be transported to you.
